ELEQT, Curaçao Tourist Board and JetBlue Airways introduce
New York’s movers and shakers to Caribbean island Curaçao
On Friday, September 12th, exclusive social network ELEQT, the Curaçao Tourist Board, and JetBlue Airways held a very strict invitation-only event at The Attic Rooftop & Lounge, located at 251 West 48th Street. The celebration saw an approximate 200 professionals of the fashion industry, international entrepreneurs, and the cities’ movers and shakers escape the busy New York city life for a while, and discover all that the Caribbean has to offer, without having to leave the city.
Invitees were welcomed with a refreshing cocktail upon arrival. A drinks reception with complimentary Iceberg Vodka cocktails was held between 6:30 – 7:30pm. Attendees could also get a taste of the Caribbean with chilled coconut water by Vita Coco, and enjoy refreshing drinks by Little Miracles, a beautiful blend of organic tea and super fruit juice.
Attendees of the night included Kwame Jackson, one of the stars from the first season of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice", among others. Michael Fredo, American musician and the nephew of Tommy Hilfiger joined the band on stage for a song. Many guests dressed in island chic attire for the "Caribbean" evening, which included live entertainment by Igor Atalita & His Trio, and the resident DJ of The Attic.
Sharin Treurniet, Regional Director ELEQT Caribbean, says: “It was great to see members of our local community mix and mingle with visiting members from Curaçao. ELEQT is all about bringing together affluent and influential individuals from all around the world, and have them share unique experiences at fashionable locations while being surrounded by luxury brands and the latest trends. We had fun, and I hope we got people excited about Curaçao. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming New York-based members to Curaçao during one of our upcoming events on the island.”
Miles Mercera, Marketing & Product Director of CHATA (Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association) continues: “More than an island, Curaçao is a one-of-a-kind holiday destination with beautiful beaches, legendary nightlife, eclectic dining, and an action-packed calendar of events. In addition, the island offers several exciting casinos, along with fine golf courses, plenty of dive sites to explore, and many other attractions. Willemstad's entire city center has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, and we are delighted to share such rich and unique history with visiting tourists from New York.”
The exclusive event featured jewellery from fashion designer Rebecca Paz who brought a splash of the Caribbean to the USA. A native of Curaçao, Paz began her career in fashion, studying in Milan and Auburn as well as interning at Carolina Herrera in New York. BECK Dutch Caribbean's trademark jewelry pieces are sexy and feminine in a beach-chic vibe. “Although Curaçao is usually the inspiration behind BECK, the newest collections draw influence from my trips worldwide and balancing life between the Caribbean and New York. The feeling I strive to create for my customers is a casual elegance, one that will allow them to feel part of our effortlessly, chic lifestyle. As soon as she puts on her BECK, I want her to feel special no matter what she’s wearing or where she’s going...” says Paz.
Event partner JetBlue Airways will launch a new route to Curaçao International Airport (CUR) from JFK International Airport (JFK) on December 2, 2014, providing the only nonstop service from New York. The twice weekly service will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
