 1. When and why did you decide to go after a career in the music industry?

I started ballet when I was around 3 years old and transitioned into musical theater as time progressed. I starred in my first musical when I was around 7, as the lead, Pocahontas. Ultimately, my entire life I’ve been passionate about the arts.

2. Do you ever feel pressure to be amazing and to make your family proud?

Funny enough, I was thinking about this question the other day. I do not feel pressured by my family in any way to be “amazing” or to make anyone proud, but I am well aware that there are expectations of me. With my last name comes responsibility… to my family, peers, and the world. There is a generation right now that must be nurtured and I hold myself accountable to be a positive influence to everyone, solely because that is my nature.

3. How would you describe your sound?

My sound is “Urban Pop.” It’s very fun with a little edge! “Urban Pop” is a mixture between R&B/Hip Hop and Pop music. My rapping also adds an interesting flavor to my music.

4. Ok, we have seen your videos, do you see yourself transitioning into a dancer, deeming yourself a double or triple threat? any other skills we should know about besides singing and rapping?

I have been dancing for YEARS.. It’s very fun for me. I sing/rap, dance, and act primarily. I also write music and play a little piano. I also just purchased a guitar, so we will see how that goes! I love to paint and write poetry and music.

5. If you can name one woman in history no matter how far back, young, or old, famous or not that you look up to who would you say?

There are so many phenomenal women to choose from. Currently, Dorothy Dandridge has been on my mind these past few weeks more than ever. She was such a trailblazer for women of color in the arts and many of the opportunities I’ve been fortunate enough to have are due to her work and the work of women like her. She’s probably one of the women in history whose story has motivated me to keep pushing and striving to be successful.

6. What is the day in the life for you?

Well of course, I usually check my email, Instagram, Twitter, and then Facebook in that order! LOL! I glance at my to-do list and then figure out what I’m wearing for the day. I recently color coded my clothing so that process is SO much easier.. then I find something to eat.. and do work for a few hours.. might read on iBooks for a while.. listen to music.. write a song.. talk to my best friend. It really depends on whether or not I have a heavy or light work schedule. And regarding school.. the same schedule applies, however I spend time doing my schoolwork and hanging out on campus.

7. What is something your fans would never guess about you?

Hmm.. well… I am a vegetarian. But my fans probably would never know that I have never eaten meat in my life. I’ve been a vegetarian since birth! Pretty crazy to think about!

8. Our editors are insane aha, they are both like mini kids at heart yet super intense wisdom geeks, we find that most artistic people are out rightly silly, super profound and serious or both which would you say you are?

I would say that I’m pretty silly.. when people really get to know me they say I get a little crazy (in a good way of course…) Something about using art as expression allows me to take risks. I’ve learned in acting class to lower my inhibitions so I am definitely free-spirited and open.  When it comes down to business.. I can become very serious but I’m always laughing and cracking jokes.

9. What do you ultimately want in life and in your career?

Well, on the music side, that’s a story that remains to be written… However, I would like to release an EP soon. I am really excited to showcase my acting.. and graduate from high school.. and get my driver’s license! Ultimately, through my work I would like to be known as someone who impacted the lives of girls and young women around the world.

10. It is no secret that you’re a teenager, what are some things you go through that can complicate your dreams?

The only possible complication I could think of would be getting a bad grade.. because that would stop everything.. so luckily I’m a good student! Ha!

11. Do you write your music? When dealing with a writer what do you look for?

I’ve been songwriting since I was about 9 or 10! I became a SESAC affiliate when I was 14. It took me a while but now I am confident enough and open to working with other writers. I look for chemistry ultimately. If we are writing together… we need to get along and understand each other! Also, people with positive vibes are extremely important since the music I release and promote is positive.

12. Lastly, when will you drop another video?

Well, my newest music video for “Fleek” just premiered on Billboard! I will start uploading more YouTube covers based on fan requests. I also post mini covers on Instagram, Snapchat, and Vine. New music is definitely in the works!
