We're sure he'd be proud of his daughter.
Sunday evening's Grease: Live! was generally hailed as an all-around hit, but one special factor made it all the more respectable.
Alongside stars like Julianne Hough, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Aaron Tveit, Vanessa Hudgens filled the shoes of tough-as-nails Betty Rizzo. Her performance was lively, convincing, and on point, but her true demeanor was likely far less jovial.
Just hours prior, Hudgens shared that her father, Greg, had lost his long battle with stage 4 cancer. Greg having passed on Saturday night, the news meant that the 27-year-old had less than 24 hours to recover before hitting the stage.
Like a true professional, however, she followed up by clarifying that her on-schedule performance was for him.
As it happened, Hudgens dominated that performance, her rendition of "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" drawing widespread praise from both fans and peers.
We sincerely hope she takes the time to pat herself on the back tonight: three cheers for the girl who wouldn't back down.
